The Oxford Research Drones Society was established because a growing number of researchers, both internationally and within Oxford, have recognized the potential of the emerging Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or ‘drone’) technology for research, but also appreciated the legal, ethical and technological challenges. The society provides hands-on experience with UAVs for the student members, and also aims to be a forum for lively debate and discussion on drone technology, a nexus for inter-disciplinary collaboration, a spring-board for young scientists going into the job market, and a mechanism for public engagement in biology and engineering research at Oxford.
